This tutorial will guide you through the steps needed to tighten the riving knife spreader bracket on the Harvey Alpha Series HW110LC 2HP and HW110TC 3HP table saws, which may help resolve issues related to rocking or play in the riving knife or blade guard assembly. Before beginning any adjustments, it’s crucial to follow safety guidelines to prevent injuries.

Safety Guidelines:

1. Disconnect Power:

  • Always disconnect the table saw from its power source before attempting any maintenance or adjustments.

2. Wear Proper Safety Gear:

  • Use safety glasses and hearing protection to safeguard against potential hazards.

3. Avoid Loose Clothing and Jewelry:

  • Wear fitting clothing and remove any dangling jewelry to prevent anything from getting caught in the moving parts of the saw.

4. Check the Work Area:

  • Ensure the work area is clean and free from any unnecessary tools or materials that could cause tripping or distractions.

5. Understand Your Tool:

  • Familiarize yourself with your table saw’s manual and understand all the parts involved in the adjustment to avoid incorrect handling.

Tools Needed:

  • 8mm Socket Wrench
  • 3mm Hex Wrench (Ball-End)

Adjustment Procedure:

Step 1: Accessing the Riving Knife Spreader Bracket

  • 1.1: Remove the blade insert

  • 1.2: Remove the cabinet side panel

  • 1.3: Remove the motor cover

Step 3: Tighten the Flange and Spreader Bracket

Adjust the Components:

  • Using the 8mm socket wrench and the 3mm hexagonal wrench, adjust the parts as indicated by the red arrows. Tighten the screws to ensure that there is no play or movement in the riving knife and blade guard assembly.

Tighten Securely:

  • Make sure all parts are tightened securely to prevent any movement during operation. However, avoid over-tightening, which might strip the screws or damage the components.

Step 4: Reassemble and Test

Reassemble the Saw:

  • Once adjustments are made, reassemble any parts that were removed during the process. Make sure everything is back in its proper place.

Test the Adjustment:

  • Reconnect the power and make a test cut with a scrap piece of wood to ensure the riving knife and blade guard assembly is stable and does not move. Observe the operation; there should be no rocking or looseness.
