Blade Angle Adjustment Is Tight or Gets Stuck
Applicable Models
Alpha HW110LC-36 (2HP)
Alpha HW110TC (3HP)
Overview

If the blade will not tilt smoothly to 45° or 90°, or gets stuck during angle adjustment, there are several possible causes. Work through the steps below in order to diagnose and resolve the issue.

Table Saw Safety
+
Ensure the machine is OFF, unplugged, and fully discharged before performing any maintenance, cleaning, or adjustments to the tilt mechanism.
+
Keep hands away from the blade at all times. Even with the machine off, the blade is sharp and can cause serious cuts on contact.
+
Wear safety glasses when using compressed air to clean the tilt mechanism — debris and sawdust can be ejected at high velocity.
+
Wear fitted clothing and remove dangling jewelry before reaching into or around the saw cabinet.
+
Consult the instruction manual for your model before adjusting stop collars or other internal tilt mechanism components.
Diagnostic & Repair Steps
Work through in order — stop when the issue is resolved
1
Check the Tilt Lock Knob

The tilt lock knob secures the blade at the desired angle. Verify the tilt lock is fully released before attempting to adjust the blade angle. If the lock is engaged or malfunctioning, the blade will not tilt properly regardless of other adjustments.

2
Clean and Lubricate the Tilt Mechanism

Sawdust and debris can accumulate in the gears and tilt mechanism, causing stiffness or binding. Use a brush or compressed air to thoroughly clean out any debris. Once clean, apply a light machine oil to the gears and tilt mechanism to restore smooth movement.

3
Check Blade Alignment

If the blade is not aligned correctly, it may be unable to reach the desired tilt angle. Use a blade alignment tool to check the current alignment and adjust as necessary to allow full range of tilt.

4
Inspect the Tilt Mechanism — Worn Parts or Incorrect Stop Collar Position

Inspect the tilt mechanism components for any worn, cracked, or damaged parts and replace as necessary. If the blade is reaching the physical stop before achieving a correct 45° or 90° angle, the stop collars (#174) may need to be adjusted:

Stop Collar Adjustment — (#174)
Loosen the set screws on the stop collars (#174).
Rotate the collars to allow the saw to tilt further and reach the correct 45° and/or 90° stops.
Once the angle is correctly set, re-tighten the set screws to lock the collars in position.
