If you’re noticing a noise or excessive motor vibration mainly at shutdown please refer to the information below on how to make adjustments to address it. Some noise and vibration at shutdown is usually considered normal and is caused by the centrifugal switch re-engaging as the motor slows down.
However, in many cases, noise and vibration at shutdown can be significantly reduced or eliminated by increasing the motor drive belt tension.
Why the Noise Happens:
The motor’s centrifugal switch activates twice:
Startup: Disengages (producing a faint “click” or “pop”)
Shutdown: Re-engages while the motor is still rotating, which can produce a louder, scraping-like sound—especially if the belt is loose and vibration occurs
When to Check Belt Tension:
You should inspect and tension the belt if you experience:
Clunk noise and vibration only during shutdown
Belt squealing or screeching at startup
Motor bogging down during cuts
General loss of cutting power

What If the Noise Persists?
If the noise:
Only occurs at shutdown → This is considered normal, especially on higher-horsepower motors like the HW110S.
Occurs during operation or gets louder while running → This could indicate a bearing issue or other internal motor problem. Please contact our support team for further diagnostics.
