Overview
The Spider Series M-1500Pro Mobile Base is compatible with bandsaws when properly configured. To ensure safe and functional use, the following guidelines and configuration options should be followed based on your preferred orientation of the pedal assembly and the bandsaw’s lower cabinet door height clearance.
Important Safety Notice
Always remove the machine from the mobile base before making any modifications to the base, such as installing shortened couplers or building a platform.
Ensure the machine powered off and unplugged when installing it onto the mobile base or moving the base.
Use caution when lifting or repositioning heavy machinery. Seek assistance or use lifting equipment if necessary.
Configuration Options
Option 1: Standard Orientation with Shortened Couplers - Optional for Alpha HW615 and C14 Models ONLY (A-15 Intelligent Band Saws require Option 2 or switching to the M-1500 due to the footer length):
Position the bandsaw so that the lower cabinet door faces the side of the mobile base opposite the foot pedal—the side with no coupler.
Install the Long Side Rails Part#55 on the sides where the footer of the bandsaw is longer and the Short Side Rails Part#56 on the sides where the footer is shorter.
If the base is oriented with the pedal or couplers in front of the door, the lower cabinet door will be obstructed and unable to open unless you lift the door off of the hinges.
Note: Many bandsaws have a narrow cabinet width. If the standard couplers are used, they may create a gap between the bandsaw and the frame, resulting in an improper fit.
Solution: If your M-1500Pro did not already come with the shortened couplers, please contact our support team to request shortened couplers, available free of charge for customers using the M-1500Pro with bandsaws they have purchased directly from Harvey. If customers have not purchased a bandsaw and an M-1500Pro from Harvey, please contact us for a parts quote.
Shortened couplers allow the base to be adjusted to a narrower width for a secure fit around the bandsaw footer.
Safety Reminder: Always install shortened couplers before placing the machine on the base and if adjustments are needed, remove the machine from the base before making adjustments to help prevent accidents or injury.
Option 2: Raised Platform Method - Optional for A-15/HW615/C14 Models:
Construct a multi-ply plywood platform that the bandsaw can be securely bolted to.
The platform should raise the base of the cabinet high enough so the lower door clears the couplers or pedal assembly, regardless of which side they are on.
This method allows more flexibility in how the mobile base is oriented, including having the pedal or coupler on the front-facing side.
Ensure the platform is level, sturdy, and capable of supporting the full weight of the machine.
Conclusion
Both options provide safe and effective solutions for using the Spider Series M-1500Pro with a band saw. The best choice depends on your model, space, accessibility needs, and preferred pedal orientation. If you require shortened couplers or further assistance, please contact our support team.
If customers prefer to avoid the need for a platform to raise the door opening past side couplers or prefer a different pedal orientation than the method in Option 1, the M-1500 (non-pro version) is a suitable choice as there are no couplers that can potentially require elevating the machine to have door clearance or the need for shortened couplers for the Ambassador C14 and Alpha HW615 models.
