Belt Tensioning & Replacement
Applicable Models
Alpha HW615
Ambassador C14

Belt tension should be checked when the band saw is new and periodically thereafter, as a new belt may stretch slightly during the break-in process and require adjustment. If the belt becomes worn, cracked, frayed, or glazed, it should be replaced.

The belt replacement process is identical for the C14 and HW615 band saws. The steps below apply to both models.
Safety Warning — Moving Parts Hazard
+
Disconnect the machine from the power source before performing any belt maintenance or lower wheel removal.
+
Wait for all moving parts to come to a complete stop before opening any covers or accessing internal components.
+
Re-check blade tension and tracking before returning the machine to operation after any belt service.
When to Check or Replace the Belt
New Machine Break-In

Check tension after the first few hours of use — a new belt may stretch slightly during break-in and require re-tensioning.

Periodic Inspection

Inspect the belt regularly for wear. A correctly tensioned belt deflects approximately 1/2" under moderate hand pressure at the center.

Belt Replacement Procedure

Refer to Fig. 16 (Manual §6.5, page 18) for the component locations referenced in the steps below.

1
Disconnect the machine from the power source and remove the blade.
2
Loosen the four motor bracket mounting bolts (B) and loosen the belt tension adjustment bolt (C).
3
Lift the motor and re-tighten bolts (B) to hold the motor in the raised position.
4
Remove the lower wheel locking screw (A) on the back of the frame and remove the lower wheel.
5
Remove the old belt and install the new one on the wheel belt pulley, ensuring it seats properly in the pulley grooves.
6
Slide the wheel back to the frame and tighten wheel locking bolt (A). Then mount the belt on the motor pulley.
7
Loosen motor bracket mounting bolts (B) and allow the motor to lower onto the belt.
8
Check belt tension — the weight of the motor should generally produce proper tension. Push with moderate pressure at the center of the belt.
A correctly tensioned belt will deflect approximately 1/2". If tension is insufficient, push the motor down by tightening belt tension bolt (C).
9
Re-tighten motor bracket mounting bolts (B) and belt tension bolt (C).
Re-check blade tension and tracking before operating the saw.
Video Walkthrough

The video below demonstrates lower wheel removal, belt re-installation, and belt tensioning. The process is identical for both the C14 and HW615.
