Try Squares: Why does the orange handle insert move on Try Squares?

Created by Gabriel Izzo, Modified on Mon, 23 Jun at 2:40 PM by Gabriel Izzo

The orange insert in the handles of our TS Try Squares is a unique and intentional design feature created by our founder, John Economaki. While it may appear loose, this is not a defect—it’s actually part of the tool's thoughtful engineering and creative expression.

Purpose & Function

  • The handle of each try square is press-fitted together.

  • If the square ever requires adjustment, the orange insert can be used to gently pry the handle apart, giving users access to make the adjustmen.

A Personal Touch

John designed the insert to reflect a bit of his own personality—adding a whimsical and playful element to an otherwise precise tool. The slight rattle of the orange piece is meant to delight woodworkers and serve as a subtle reminder that even the most serious tools can have a sense of character.

So if you hear a little rattle—don’t worry. It’s a feature, not a flaw, and part of what makes the TS Try Square line so uniquely Bridge City.
