This is not a defect — it is an intentional design feature.

The orange insert in the handle of the TS Try Square was designed by our founder, John Economaki. While it may appear loose, this is part of the tool's thoughtful engineering.

Purpose & Function
1
The handle of each try square is press-fitted together.
2
If the square ever needs to be re-squared or adjusted, the orange insert can be used to gently pry the handle apart, giving you access to make the adjustment without damaging the tool.
A Personal Touch

John designed the orange insert to reflect a bit of his own personality — adding a whimsical and playful element to an otherwise precise tool. The slight rattle of the orange piece is intentional, meant to delight woodworkers and serve as a subtle reminder that even the most serious tools can have a sense of character.

So if you hear a little rattle — don't worry. It's a feature, not a flaw, and part of what makes the TS Try Square line so uniquely Bridge City.
