How to Adjust the TS-2v2 / TS-1v2 Try Squares
TS-2v2
TS-1v2
Both the TS-2v2 and TS-1v2 Try Squares are field adjustable, allowing users to fine-tune the tool for optimal 90° accuracy. Choose the method below based on your available tools.
Important — Do Not Overtighten Set Screws

The set screws are stainless steel. Excessive force when tightening can shear off the screw heads. Tighten firmly but carefully — do not overtighten.

Method 1
If You Have a Known 90° Reference Surface
1
Loosen the Screws

Using the correct-size hex key, loosen one screw slightly, then loosen the remaining three screws fully.

2
Position the Square

Place the square against a known 90° reference — such as a certified machinist square or reference block. Determine the direction of adjustment needed.

3
Adjust the Square

Clamp the blade (not the handle) gently in a wood vise. Lightly tap the handle in the direction required to align the blade with your reference. This may take a few tries — check alignment after each adjustment.

Tip: Clamp the blade, not the handle — tapping the handle allows fine directional control without damaging the blade or scale.
Secure the Adjustment

Once the square mates cleanly with the reference:

Tighten the screw that was left semi-tight.
Re-check for accuracy.
Carefully tighten the remaining three screws. Do not overtighten.
Method 2 — Flip Test
If You Do Not Have a Known 90° Reference

This method uses the "flip test" to empirically establish a true 90° angle without needing a certified square.

1
Place the square against a known straight reference edge — such as a jointed board or straight ruler. Scribe a line along the blade.
2
Flip the square 180°, align the same edge, and scribe a second line alongside the first.
3
Compare the two lines. If they diverge, the square is not true. The angle error is twice the difference between the lines.
Use the same adjustment method from Method 1 above to align the blade until no gap or deviation appears between the two scribed lines when flipped.
