Shark S-10 & Big Eye Fence System — 27" Depth Table Saw Rip Capacity Considerations

This article explains a compatibility consideration that arises when the Shark S-10 Universal Overhead Guard and the Harvey Big Eye Rip Fence System are used together on table saws with a 27" table depth.

Harvey Alpha and Ambassador series table saws have a table depth of 31.5", providing ample clearance between the rear of the Big Eye fence and the Shark S-10 vertical column. On saws from other manufacturers with a shallower 27" table depth, this clearance relationship changes in a way that can reduce usable rip capacity to the right of the blade.

The Compatibility Issue
Why table depth affects rip capacity when the Big Eye and Shark S-10 are used together

On a Harvey table saw with a 31.5" table depth, installing the Big Eye Fence System alongside the Shark S-10 results in the rear of the fence clearing the S-10 vertical column without issue. There is sufficient table depth for the fence to travel freely to the right of the blade across its full rated rip capacity.

On a table saw with a 27" table depth, installing the Big Eye Fence System causes the rear end of the fence to extend approximately 4.5" further behind the table than it would on a 31.5" Harvey saw. If the Shark S-10 vertical column is installed at a point along the rear rail where this overhanging rear section of the fence contacts it, the fence cannot travel further to the right.

This means the column position effectively becomes the new right-hand rip limit — reducing total usable rip capacity to the right of the blade by however far the column is located beyond the point of fence contact.

Current Status: There is currently no bracket or adapter accessory available from Harvey to resolve this depth mismatch. The only available solution is upgrading to a Harvey Alpha Series table saw, which eliminates the issue by design. Another potential solution would be to customize the eccentric bolt thread lengths to a longer length and then installing a spacer between the rear rail and table tops effectively recreating the same clearance as would be present on a Harvey Alpha Series table saw.
Recommended Solution
Current Recommended Solution — Switch to a Harvey Alpha Series Table Saw

If installing a spacer is not possible for your setup, switching to a Harvey Alpha Series table saw eliminates the compatibility issue entirely. Harvey Alpha Series saws have a 31.5" table depth by design, allowing the Big Eye Fence System and Shark S-10 to coexist without any reduction in rip capacity or additional modification.
