Gyro Air G-700: Troubleshooting Error Code Err15 (Inovance VFD)

Created by Gabriel Izzo, Modified on Mon, 22 Apr 2024 at 10:16 AM by Gabriel Izzo

The Gyro Air Series G-700 has an variable frequency drive that all of the electrical components connect to so that they can communicate with the motor. These include the sensor to trigger the full dust bin alarm and the remote receiver to start and stop the machine.

Potential Causes of Error Code Err15

  • External Failure - Dust Bin Sensor is powered and being triggered to indicate the dust bin is full.
  • External Failure - Remote Receiver wiring is loose or disconnected.

Potential Solutions

  • Empty the dust bins and install a clean liner.
  • Wipe clean the sensor located above the large dust bin and restart the machine.
  • With the machine OFF - Reconnect any disconnected sensor and remote receiver wires.
  • Disconnect the (D|2) communication wire for the dust bin sensor to eliminate it from the system - best for cases where the material has a tendency to adhere to the sensor and frequently trigger false alarms. More common with high static dusts like pvc dust.
  • Replace the sensor

Before troubleshooting, review the following safety information:

General Safety Instructions

  1. Read and understand the owner’s manual and labels affixed to the machine. Learn its application and limitations as well as its specific potential hazards.
  2. The power supply socket or terminals need reliable grounding.
  3. Keep in good working order, properly adjusted and aligned. Cluttered areas and benches invite accidents. Make sure the floor is clean and not slippery due to wax and sawdust build-up.
  4. WARNING ! – To reduce the risk of electric shock:
    1. Do not expose the machine to water or moisture.
    2. Do not use outdoors.
  5. Do not use this machine within the designated safety areas of flammable liquid stores or in areas where there may be volatile gases. Keep work area clean, dry, and well-lighted.
  6. Keep children from reaching this machine.
  7. Don’t force the machine or the attachment to do a job for which it was not designed.
  8. Do not wear loose clothing, gloves, neckties or jewelry (rings, watch) because they could get caught in moving parts. Non-slip footwear is recommended. Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair. Roll up long sleeves above the elbows.
  9. Do not use this machine if you are tired, your attention is wandering or you are being subjected to distraction.
  10. If the work operation appears to be excessively noisy, wear ear protection.
  11. Always wear safety glasses or a face shield when operating or observing machinerytoreducethe risk of eye injury or blindness from flying particles. Everyday eyeglasses are not approved safety glasses.
  12. WARNING ! – To reduce the risk of electric shock:
    1. Always unplug the machine during servicing.
  13. WARNING ! – To reduce the risk of injury from moving parts:
    1. Always unplug before servicing.
  14. Make sure the power switch is on the “OFF” position before plugging in.
  15. Turn power ‘’OFF’’. Don’t leave until it comes to a complete stop.
  16. Regularly inspect machine for damaged parts, loose bolts or any other conditions that may affect safe operation. Always repair or replace damaged parts before operating machine.
  17. Keep the machine clean; it will enable you to more easily see any damage that may have occurred. Clean the machine with a damp soapy cloth if needs be, do not use any solvents or cleaners, as these may cause damage to any plastic parts or to the electrical components.

Troubleshooting

To determine if the sensor is working, turn the machine ON so that it is in STANDBY mode with the screen blinking but the motor not running, then remove the dust bin and place your hand directly below the sensor and determine if the sensor is performing normally.

Normally, the alarm is raised when dust, or in this case a hand or other object, is close enough to trigger the light sensor, i.e. when the bins are full and the sensor is activated. If the alarm is raised when the hand is halfway between the sensor and the floor, or even lower, then the sensor is confirmed to be faulty. If the sensor seems to be performing normally during the hand test, the sensor most likely just needs to be cleaned thoroughly. If thoroughly cleaning the sensor and restarting the machine does not get rid of the error code Err15, loose wiring should be checked next.

Checking the Wiring Connections

1. Please remove the rear switch panel and with the machine off and unplugged, remove the electrical box panel with the power switch mounted to it. The switch must be in the OFF position for it to be able to be pulled off of the switch bar, if in the ON position, it will be locked onto the bar and will be difficult to remove.

Once you have gained access to the electrical box, on the terminal block to the right, the wires connected to terminals 3, 4, 6, and 7 up from the bottom on the right-hand side, should be the wire connectors for the dust bin sensor.

On the left-hand side of the terminal block please also check wires connected to 4, 6, and 7, up from the bottom left which run to the VFD's terminal D|2, 10v, and 0v/Ground terminals shown in the diagram below.

Make sure none of these wires are loose. If it seems good and tight at the terminal block connections and VFD connections, please check the other end of the sensor by removing the metal encasement between the separators and checking that the connections to the sensor there are not loose.

Sensor wiring connections to the terminal block and VFD:

For cases where the material has a tendency to adhere to the sensor such as some PVC dusts, it may help to disconnect the sensor temporarily though this also comes with its own set of considerations due to no longer having a sensor to stop the machine when the dust bins are full and is only recommended as a last resort for specific situations and should not be done unless the benefits outweigh the risks of potentially overfilling the bins and filters.

If the issue persists, disconnect the sensor's communication wire from terminal D|2 and wrap the exposed wire end with electrical tape and/or a wire cap and then test the machine to see if the unit starts and runs without triggering an external fault. Contact us for troubleshooting assistance.
