Turbo Wood Lathes FAQ: Knockout Rod Does Not Fit Through the Tailstock

Knockout Rod Usage – Turbo T-40/T-60S Lathes

Since the tailstock is self-ejecting, the **knockout rod is primarily intended for removing accessories from the headstock spindle, such as the spur center or live center. This is demonstrated in the manual diagrams below.

In most cases, a knockout rod is not needed for the tailstock, as the quill automatically ejects accessories when fully retracted. However, if you prefer to use a knockout method for the tailstock, a slightly smaller diameter rod may be used—though this is generally unnecessary.

For accessories with tapers too short to self-eject when the tailstock is fully retracted, a Morse Taper#2 Female to Male Extension will increase the length of the accessory and allow it to be ejected from the tailstock normally.

Please refer to the diagrams below for proper use of the knockout rod with the headstock. If you have any questions about compatible accessories or removal procedures, feel free to contact Harvey Technical Support.
