The FA-CSM Flat Stock Planing Arm (BLUE) arm (available for purchase here) is used with the Chopstick Master and is specially designed for thickness planing flat pieces of wood blanks, making it an excellent tool for Kumiko and inlay work.
What is Kumiko?
Kumiko is a traditional Japanese woodworking technique that involves assembling intricate patterns without nails or fasteners. Each piece is meticulously cut to fit together with precision, creating stunning geometric designs used in screens, panels, and fine woodworking.
Here’s a video demonstrating the use of the flat (blue) arm with the original Chopstick Master Gen 1 (CSMv1) to plane Kumiko pieces:

Tips & Notes
The Chopstick Master Gen 1 features a Japanese-style saw blade that’s ideal for making the fine, accurate cuts required in Kumiko work.
Don't have the Gen 1 model?
No problem—you can achieve similar results by building a simple jig (like a small miter box) to securely hold your blanks while cutting.
Whether you're exploring Kumiko, doing delicate inlay work, or just need precision thicknessing for small pieces, the flat arm adds an entirely new layer of versatility to your Chopstick Master setup.
