VFD Commissioning — Setup & Autotuning

This guide covers the initial commissioning procedure for the INVT Goodrive28 Series VFD as used in the Harvey Gyro Air G-700 Pro. It covers keypad orientation, menu navigation, motor parameter setup, autotuning, and setting up the running command and speed control modes. All motor and operating parameters are listed in the Full Parameter Reference section at the bottom of this article.

⚠ ⚡ Safety — Read Before Commissioning
Risk of electric shock, serious injury, or death. Never touch any wires, terminals, or internal components other than the VFD keypad controls while the machine is plugged in or energized. The VFD contains high-voltage capacitors that remain charged for a period of time even after power is removed. Wear electrical safety gloves whenever performing any work inside the electrical cabinet.
!
Always power off, unplug the machine, and allow at least 10 minutes for capacitors to fully discharge before making any wiring connections or handling electrical components. High voltage remains present at VFD terminals after power is removed until fully dissipated.
!
When the machine is energized, only interact with the VFD keypad. Do not make contact with any wiring, terminals, or fuses while power is on.
!
Any work inside the electrical cabinet while energized should only be performed by someone trained and comfortable working with high-voltage equipment. If you are unsure or unfamiliar with electrical safety practices, we strongly recommend consulting a licensed electrician — or contact Harvey support and we can walk you through the process.
!
Do not proceed if you are unsure about any step or are not trained on working with energized equipment. Stop and consult a qualified technician or contact Harvey Industries support before continuing.
!
Incorrect VFD parameters can cause motor damage, equipment failure, or unexpected operation. Entering incorrect values for rated voltage, current, frequency, or pole pairs can result in motor overheating, overcurrent faults, or permanent damage. Always verify all values against the parameter list before running the motor.

ActionWhat happens
Press PRG/JOGEnter Level-1 (groups). Press again to return to previous level without saving.
Press ▲ / ▼Scroll groups (L1), codes (L2), or change a digit value (L3).
Press ENT/SHIFTDescend to next level, or save value at Level-3 and return to Level-2.
Hold ENT/SHIFT ≥1sAt Level-3: shift blinking edit cursor one digit right (circular).
Example — setting P02.16 to 210 Hz
1
Press PRG/JOG — display shows P00
2
Press until display shows P02, then press ENT/SHIFT
3
Press until display shows P02.16, then press ENT/SHIFT
4
Current value shown with one digit blinking. Use ▲/▼ to change; hold ENT/SHIFT to move cursor. Set to 210.0
Press ENT/SHIFT to save — display returns to P02.16 confirming stored value

Read-only: If no digit blinks at Level-3, the parameter is read-only or cannot be modified while running — stop the VFD first.

Locked: If P00.18 = 3, nothing blinks and nothing can be modified. Restore defaults (P00.18 = 1) to unlock.

Commissioning Procedure
Follow these steps in order — refer to the Full Parameter Reference below for all values
1
Power On After Wiring

Ensure all wiring is correctly connected before powering on. Verify input power, motor output, ground, and any control terminals.

2
Restore Default Values

Set P00.18 = 1 to restore all parameters to factory defaults before entering any values.

P00.18 = 1→ Restore defaults
3
Select Motor Type

Set P02.00 = 1 for permanent magnet synchronous motor (SM).

P02.00 = 1→ Permanent magnet synchronous motor (SM)
4
Enter All Motor and Operating Parameters

Enter all parameters from the Full Parameter Reference table at the bottom of this article. Set Group P00 operating parameters and Group P02 motor parameters before proceeding.

P00 groupP02.15–P02.19
5
JOG Test — Check Rotation Direction

Press and hold PRG/JOG to jog the motor and verify rotation direction.

Wrong direction: Power off completely, wait 10 minutes for capacitors to discharge, then swap any two motor output wires (U, V, W).
6
Run Complete Static Autotuning

Set P00.15 = 2, then press RUN. The VFD measures the motor's electrical characteristics without spinning the shaft. The RUN/TUNE indicator blinks during autotuning and turns off when complete.

P00.15 = 2→ Complete static autotuning, then press RUN
7
Switch Running Command to Communication

After autotuning is complete, change P00.01 from 0 (Keypad) to 2 (Communication) for normal Gyro Air operation.

P00.01 = 2→ Communication (Modbus)
8
Enter Remaining Parameters

Enter all remaining parameters from the Full Parameter Reference — Groups P01, P05, P06, P11, and P14.

Test Run
Give the running command and verify operation at target speed.
Confirm correct deceleration and stop behavior.
