HP-8 Mini Block Plane: Honing Guide Options

Created by Gabriel Izzo, Modified on Tue, 16 Apr at 6:14 AM by Gabriel Izzo

You can sharpen HP-8 Mini Block Plane irons effectively using either the HG-4 or HG-30 honing guides. A significant advantage of the HG-30 is its compatibility with the HK-50 kit, which allows for honing at 50-degree angles—an option not available with the HG-4. The HG-4 is designed with a setup gauge that supports 20, 25, 30, and 35-degree angles.

For those using larger planes like the HP-9v2 or even bigger models such as the HP-12, and wishing to achieve a 50-degree honing angle with the HG-4, it is possible to accomplish this manually or with a guide that supports larger plane irons.

This flexibility ensures that whether you are working with standard or larger plane irons, there are options available to maintain sharpness and precision in your woodworking projects.
