Honing Guide Options

You can effectively sharpen your HP-8 Mini Block Plane iron using either the HG-30 Mini Honing Guide or the HG-4 Honing Guide. Each offers unique advantages depending on your sharpening needs and preferred angles.

Honing Guide Comparison
HG-30 Mini Honing Guide Included with Chopstick Masters
Ideal for the HP-8 and other small plane irons.
When combined with the HK50-CSM 50 Degree Honing Kit, allows honing at a 50° angle — ideal for challenging grain or harder woods.
Offers greater angle flexibility for advanced users.
HG-4 Honing Guide
Features a built-in setup gauge supporting 20°, 25°, 30°, and 35° angles.
Compact and easy to use — a straightforward choice for standard sharpening angles.
Note — Larger Planes (HP-9v2, HP-12)

The HG-4 is not designed for 50° angles, but users can still achieve this manually or by using a sharpening guide compatible with larger plane irons. This ensures a keen edge is maintained even in high-angle setups for tear-out-prone woods.

This range of sharpening options ensures precision and adaptability whether you're working with miniature block planes or full-sized hand planes. Maintaining a sharp iron is key to clean cuts and a flawless woodworking finish — choose the guide that best fits your tools and preferred angles.
