To ensure the tool is set up correctly, check the following:
- When measuring out the kerf of your dado, make sure to set that correctly to ensure accuracy. If the kerf amount is inaccurate, then there will always be a slight discrepancy.
- When measuring out the workpiece, make sure you measure the thickness of the "mating piece". For example, if cutting a half-lap joint:
- Measure the width of Workpiece B to cut the half lap on Workpiece A.
- Measure the width of Workpiece A to cut the half lap on Workpiece B
- The Kerfmaker will make pretty tight tolerance joints (press fit), so if you want to make a "slip fit" tolerance for the joints, then shim a piece of paper when taking the measurement of a workpiece. Vice versa, depending on how tightly you secure the Kerfmaker when measuring the workpiece will affect the tolerance levels.
